POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development & Communications works with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to lead the development and implementation of organizational goals to position the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket as a premier youth serving organization.

Reporting to the CEO, and in collaboration with the Board of Directors, this position is responsible for all fundraising, communications and marketing activities to build visibility, impact, and financial resources, through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, annual campaigns, and corporate and foundation support. As a member of the Leadership Team they will provide direction to Club staff with specific responsibility for the Development and Marketing Team to enhance the organization's brand, and build relationships with donors and the community to support all resource development and marketing efforts.

Each of the following duties and responsibilities is designed to further the organization's mission of preparing youth for success by inspiring and enabling young people from Pawtucket and surrounding communities, especially those with greatest need, to realize their full potential as healthy, productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and steward strategic relationships and community partnerships to position the Club to fulfill its mission, increasing brand awareness, and continually elevating philanthropy.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, in alignment with the Club's strategic plan - with an annual budget goal of upwards of $1.5 million. Directly responsible for all aspects of the plan, including the Annual Fund, Major Gifts (annual and planned), Corporate Campaign, Individual Campaigns, Advocacy efforts, Grant Development and Reporting, Special Events, Marketing and Communications.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, corporate partners and community partners. Develop a portfolio of major gift donors/prospects and manage the fundraising strategy for these donors with primary responsibility for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, matching objectives of the organization with interests of the donor.
  • Work closely with relevant/assigned Board committees to develop strategic plans and organizational goals, managing the process of identification, cultivation and stewardship of donors.
  • Oversee all grant writing, research, reporting and data collection.
  • Oversee and lead all events, including both fundraising, sponsorships and volunteer events, including the Club's Earth Day, Halloween, Opening Doors, Annual Meeting and other events.

Communications:

  • Create and implement an annual strategic communications plan for all internal and external marketing (Club and Camp) and communications (print, website, social media, etc.), remaining true to BGCA guidelines and branding, and continuing the Club's high quality, signature brand. Oversee the production of all printed and electronic marketing and fundraising materials. Maintain integrity of Club brand and identity.
  • Elevate the Club's profile and brand through comprehensive strategies including relationships with key influencers and the media.
  • Develop social media marketing strategy and analyze key data points; shift strategy as necessary for efficacy.
  • Make public appearances, attend networking events and accept speaking engagements to share information about the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket.
  • Serve as organization spokesperson in absence of CEO, and additionally as needed.

Administration:

  • Provide oversight and leadership of all staff members of the organization's Development and Communications team along with the Office Manager, supporting successful interaction and cross-functions of the teams. Work to establish strategies that achieve goal accomplishment for all teams simultaneously. Motivate and lead both the Development and Communications staff members. Hire and train new staff, plan, organize and supervise their work, including assigning, evaluating, and managing performance, as well as providing opportunities for professional development.
  • Evaluate overall department effectiveness based on work quality and achievement of goals; create and implement plans as needed for quality improvement.
  • Support data collection, as it relates to grant applications, donor communications and the development process.
  • Manage internal control safeguards and records systems that comply with best practice standards for Club's donor database, and ensure timely acknowledgements.
  • Work cooperatively with Director of Finance, assisting with organizational and departmental budget development and oversight on a regular basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate must have at least 5 years of professional leadership/philanthropy and development experience, ideally overseeing philanthropy and development in a nonprofit environment.

EDUCATION & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • A demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, and develop staff at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and experience working productively and proactively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Cultivating and prospecting major donors.
  • Excellent computer skills including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite and data base management.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable insured transportation in order to travel to and from clients and work-related meetings is required.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Considerable knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; and the principles and practices of non-profits;
  • Demonstrated ability to: organize, direct and coordinate operations; oversee personnel supervision, and recruitment and retention of personnel; and manage budgets;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively speak publicly;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, stakeholders, community groups and other related agencies.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

  • Maintain close, daily contact with the Club's professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues and provide/receive information as they relate to job responsibilities.
  • Maintain contact with the Board of Directors, as required, to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues and provide/receive information as they relate to job responsibilities.

External:

  • Maintain applicable contact with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Club stakeholders, donors, nonprofit organizations, external community groups and others as required.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
