(12-month position)

Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Social Emotional Learning, Mental Health & Wellness provides strategic leadership and coordination to develop infrastructure, culture, and competencies for systemic SEL implementation. This leader oversees and evaluates all SEL, Mental Health, and Wellness programs districtwide. The Director collaborates with psychologists, social workers, behavior interventionists, MTSS staff, curriculum and instruction, multilingual learners, special education, student services, and health services to ensure integrated supports.

This leader will guide the formation of a newly established Office of SEL, Mental Health &Wellness. The Director is responsible for advancing a comprehensive, tiered SEL model and professional learning plan to ensure safe, inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive school environments that support the whole child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead districtwide SEL strategy and vision aligned to Pawtucket's mission, values, and equity commitments.
  • Facilitate SEL workgroups and oversee goal-setting, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners on SEL-related data systems, tools, and program evaluation.
  • Oversee development of a K-12 Tier 1 SEL curriculum framework integrated into academics and adult SEL.
  • Assess and enhance current SEL programs, curricula, and school-based practices.
  • Develop and implement a districtwide SEL professional learning plan for educators, leaders, and support staff.
  • Coach and support school leaders in developing safe, inclusive, culturally and linguistically sustaining environments.
  • Coordinate family and community engagement strategies for SEL and mental health awareness.
  • Supervise SEL-related personnel including coaches, social workers, psychologists, and project staff.
  • Oversee the integration of SEL into MTSS systems and collaborate on equity-focused SEL/mental health policies.
  • Generate reports and secure funding to support SEL strategic goals.
  • Represent the department on the District Health & Wellness Committee and other strategic committees.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or higher in Educational Administration, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience in leading PBIS, MTSS, SEL/Mental Health initiatives and teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive SEL practices and CASEL-aligned standards.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and team-building skills with experience supervising professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills-written and oral-with ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven success leading professional development, facilitating adult learning, and supporting instructional staff.
  • Familiarity with SEL-related assessments and data-informed decision making.
  • Experience collaborating with city agencies, community organizations, and school teams.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, etc.).
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • TESOL/Dual Language and/or Special Education experience.
  • Advanced studies degree or certification in a related field.
  • Building level administrator or another administrative certificate.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
  • At least three years of relevant leadership or SEL program experience.
  • Understanding of equity principles across race, gender, health, and ability.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
  • Ability to begin work pending national criminal background check (BCI).
Salary: $120,000-$125,000
