Job Summary the Structural Design Team Manager will lead three designers, focusing 75% on creating industry-leading structural designs that uphold SWS's reputation for excellence. The remaining 25% involves overseeing office operations, managing two administrators to support project delivery. The ideal candidate is a design-focused leader skilled in structural engineering and team mentorship.

Key Responsibilities - Design Leadership 75%

  • Mentor three designers to create efficient, installation-ready structural designs for engineered wood and structural steel components.
  • Oversee the design process, from client consultations to final deliverables, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Use AutoCAD and iStruct to develop and review complex structural designs.
  • Collaborate with clients and builders to deliver innovative, cost-effective designs.
  • Work with the in-house structural engineer to ensure designs are reviewed, stamped, and compliant.
  • Improve design workflows with advanced tools to maintain industry leadership.
  • Manage design project timelines and budgets for timely delivery.

Office and Operational Management (25%):

  • Supervise two administrators for efficient office operations, including scheduling and budgeting.
  • Coordinate lumberyard inventory to ensure material availability.
  • Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Office for financial and administrative tasks.
  • Streamline operations to support design team productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years in structural design or design team leadership, ideally in engineered wood or steel.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and iStruct; QuickBooks and Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of engineered wood, structural steel components, and design principles.
  • Proven leadership in mentoring design teams for exceptional results.
  • Excellent client communication and multi-project management skills.
  • Lumberyard or inventory experience is a plus.
