POSITION TITLE: VAN DRIVER

COUNCIL ON AGING

NON-UNION

PART-TIME (5 HOURS PER WEEK)

FULL PAY RANGE: $15.0256 TO $19.7029 PER HOUR

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This is a part-time, on call, non-union position, non-benefited position driving a van in the safe transport of elderly and physically challenged passengers to various destinations in Bridgewater. The On Call Van Driver will cover evening and holiday programs, assist during special events and called in to cover for other drivers during their absence. The person in this position reports directly to the Elder Affairs Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safely and punctually transporting elderly and handicapped clients in a wheelchair van with automatic transmission
• Ability to follow a routing schedule, and navigate roadways efficiently
• Interacting with elderly and physically challenged passengers with courtesy and respect
• Maintaining viable communication and working relationships with other van drivers to maximize efficiency of transportation services.
• Making safety checks of all operating equipment, including two-way radios; reporting any van malfunctions to the Director for the purpose of repair.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving associated with loading and unloading wheelchair bound passengers
• Keeping accurate records mileage
• Report accidents or incidents, of any nature, relative to vans or passengers.
• Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Patience and interest in elderly and/or physically challenged people

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• Willingness to take occasional training courses (at no cost), at the discretion of the department director and/or Human Resources.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• A valid Class II Massachusetts driver's license and evidence of a safe-driving record, as generated by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
