Principal Database Administrator

Description:

The Principal Database Administrator will be part of the Database Operations Team within the Data Integration Platform.

This team is responsible for providing operational and cloud support for mission-critical databases including Distributed DB2, CockroachDB, and Neo4j.

The role involves managing high-availability environments, implementing cloud infrastructure, and supporting database migrations and monitoring across a global enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support and troubleshooting for databases such as CockroachDB, DB2, and Neo4j.
  • Build, configure, and maintain cloud-based database infrastructure in AWS using industry-standard deployment tools.
  • Utilize AWS services including EC2, S3, CloudFormation Templates (CFT), EBS, IAM, and AWS CLI.
  • Establish and enforce database standards for operations, upgrades, EC2 rehydration, and migrations.
  • Configure and support monitoring and alerting tools such as DataDog and AWS CloudWatch.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather technical requirements for data migration projects.
  • Manage production support, capacity planning, and disaster recovery for large-scale database systems.
  • Standardize and implement cloud user management, security, and monitoring practices.
  • Develop automation scripts using shell scripting, Python, or similar languages.
  • Support CI/CD processes using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, Terraform, and related technologies.
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents, manage service requests, and perform problem management.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation for standards and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively across teams and work with a wide range of architectures and technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of IT database experience with progressive growth into technical leadership roles.
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with CockroachDB, DB2, and Neo4j.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., shell, Python).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and infrastructure automation.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with containerization and cloud-native deployment strategies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies.
Certifications
  • AWS certification preferred.
