Overview
Provide emergency and non-emergency support services to the Office of Public Safety that is a 24/7 day operation. Communicates with Public Safety Officers and supervisors via the telephone and over the department radio system. Provide essential services and are required to report to work, or remain on duty, even when college is closed. This positions schedule rotates weekly, to consist of 4 nights on and 2 nights off. The work schedule is 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM shift. Flexibility to work overtime shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service from internal and external customers. Determine the nature of the calls and route while simultaneously assigning each call a priority and routing the call to the appropriate public safety agencies, police/file. Provides customer service to faculty, staff, students, and others, and when necessary. (30%)
  2. Utilize public safety communications equipment such as radios and telephones to dispatch public safety officers, shuttle drivers, and EMT's. (30%)
  3. Record and update Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) entries. (30%)
  4. Performs intermediate and advanced computer functions including managing databases through CAD entries. Monitor fire alarm systems and appropriately dispatch Public Safety Officers to the location of the alarms. Monitor CCTV camera system for suspicious persons or activity. (10%)
MARGINAL DUTIES:
  1. Perform all other duties as may be required.


Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years' of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in public safety, military, or law enforcement dispatch.
  • Designated as essential emergency personnel.
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift as assigned, including weekends, holidays, nights, days, and evenings.
  • Working knowledge of word processing and database systems.
  • Excellent organizational communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and to prioritize assignments while juggling multiple tasks.
  • Discretion and the ability to keep all records, communications, and other information confidential.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch and record management, computerized alarms monitoring systems and access control, CCTV, and other technical systems that may be added to the Communication Center.
  • Successful completion of APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator I certification and Power Phone Emergency Medical Dispatch within 6-months of hire or as soon as reasonably able based on availability of courses.
