JOB SUMMARY

Mold Maintenance Technician is the technical authority for mold maintenance and tooling reliability. This role remains fully hands-on, performing mold PMs and complex repairs, while also owning the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of the mold preventive maintenance program.

The Technician is responsible for ensuring mold PMs are completed correctly and on schedule, managing PM standards within the maintenance system, and maintaining long-term mold health. This role involves vendor communication, external PM coordination, and tooling component sourcing, as well as tooling parts inventory management to support uptime and reduce risk

In addition to technical execution, the Master Technician provides formal coaching and training to other technicians, supports engineering on tooling improvements and new mold designs, and leads mold failure investigations. This role influences tooling strategy, reliability, and cost while remaining directly engaged in hands-on mold maintenance work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform mold PMs, including complex and critical tooling PMs
  • Own management of mold PMs within the maintenance system (MaintainX / CMMS)
  • Develop, update, and enforce PM standards and inspection criteria
  • Ensure PMs are executed on schedule, including oversight and prioritization
  • Take measurements to determine wear & proper sizes of pins, bushings, and hold dimensions
  • Lead complex mold maintenance, repairs, rebuilds, and life-extension initiatives
  • Own communication with external vendors for mold and tooling component PMs or repair
  • Obtain, evaluate, and manage vendor quotes and work scope
  • Own tooling parts inventory management, including spare components and obsolescence planning
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on mold design changes and tooling improvements
  • Lead mold failure investigations and corrective actions
  • Coach, train, and mentor Level I–III technicians
  • Establish best practices for mold maintenance, documentation, and reliability
  • Practice good housekeeping and appropriate measures to prevent pollution or other negative impacts on the environment
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 8–12+ years mold maintenance or tooling experience
  • Toolmaker experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience performing and managing CMMS-based PM programs
  • Proven experience working directly with tooling vendors
  • Advanced understanding of injection molding processes and mold design
  • Electrical diagnostic background
  • Experience working with injection molds, required
  • Experience with forklift and pallet jack operation, preferred
  • Machining Certifications or technical school, preferred

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and understand micrometers and calibers
