Job Summary
The Human Resources Assistant supports a variety of staffing and HR operations, including recruitment, training coordination, new hire processing, onboarding, and compliance activities. This role provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources team and assists with HR projects, employee events, and reporting requirements. The position may require occasional light travel to branch locations to support HR initiatives and staff needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the onboarding process of new hires, including pre-employment paperwork, background checks, HR system data entry, and clearance of all hires, particularly during peak hiring periods from April through July.
  • Centralize new hire paperwork and track the receipt of all required documentation and background checks. Maintain and update employee information electronically.
  • Maintain familiarity with the employee handbook and benefits guide in order to assist employees with general questions.
  • Ensuring that all new hires are filling approved positions and are placed at the appropriate compensation levels.
  • Support the completion of new hire packets under the supervision of the HR Manager while maintaining the highest standards of quality control related to employee records.
  • Assist and guide file room staff as needed.
  • Support all aspects of employee onboarding, ensuring offer letters, data change forms, and required paperwork are completed and signed on the employee's first day.
  • Provide general administrative and operational support to the Human Resources team, including assistance with HR projects, events, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain a professional manner and demonstrate the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Work in harmony and cooperation with staff and volunteers to promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
